Spring watching cottages

If, like us, you’ve been delighted by the return of Springwatch this week you might be interested to hear that some of our featured properties are tailor-made for budding ornithologists and nature watchers. And as National Wildlife Week (28 May–12 June) urges us to make the most of the nature that is on our doorstep, we thought we’d highlight a few featured cottages that offer a unique insight into the natural beauty and wildlife for which the UK is justly celebrated.

What follows is a just a small selection of our featured holiday cottages, please visit cottages4you to search from thousands of other, equally fantastic properties.

England

Whitelee Farm – Birch Cottage, Byrness Village, near Otterburn

Property Reference: 15841

Relax amid spectacular and dramatic scenery in this gloriously unspoilt part of Northumberland. Lying within the Northumberland National Park, and enjoying panoramic views over Whitelee Fell National Nature Reserve, there  are wildlife cameras which feed live pictures direct to the flatscreen TV in the cottage, so you can watch barn owls, badgers and other local wildlife as they share your enjoyment of the surrounding area. Whitelee Farm is an idyllic base for exploring the Roman wall, Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle, Kielder Forest Park and the Scottish borders.

Wales

Rhos Barn, Crugybar, near Llanwrda

Property Reference: W42251

Once owned by pop legend Billy Fury, this converted traditional Welsh barn is set in a 100-acre farm in the rolling countryside of Carmarthenshire, making it an ideal holiday base. The bird watching tower has been converted into a gothic folly, ideal for watching the wildlife or taking in the stunning views. Also available is a hot tub (available all year) with separate changing facilities and a games room for children.

Scotland

The Coach House, Campbeltown, Argyll

Property Reference: STTR

Situated on a working farm on the beautiful Kildalloig Estate, Mull of Kintyre, this beautiful cottage provides an idyllic sanctuary for families looking to get away from it all. Wonderful stretches of secluded beach and coastal walks as well as the fascinating island of Davaar are close by offering plenty of opportunities to take in the area’s wildlife. Activities locally include surfing, sea fishing and horse riding and the birds of prey centre is also a short distance from the cottage.
