Holidays for horses

With The Grand National and National Pet Month both taking place in April, we though there was no better time to highlight a few of our featured properties that are fit for four legs. Or in this case, four hooves.

All of the properties below offer stabling facilities, as well as being in some of the UK’s most scenic locations. So if you fancy a more active break, or just want to spoil every member of your family, then look no further.

Sellet Hall Barn, Stainton, near Kendal

Set within a small privately owned 30-acre estate, this barn dates from the late 16th-century and its renovation has been carefully undertaken to ensure the magnificent oak-beamed ceiling remains on show. The two-tiered living accommodation is on the upper floors, ensuring that guests can make the most of the setting and the barn’s many intriguing features. If you wish to explore the Lakes or the Pennines, Sellet Hall Barn is ideally situated. The property enjoys views over the rolling green hills unique to this charming pocket of South Cumbria. Stabling is available to guests and there are opportunities for fishing and walking nearby.

Town End Farm Cottages – Flora’s Barn, Crowcombe, Quantock Hills, Somerset

Nestling in the Quantock Hills, this converted barn offers spectacular views and a peaceful holiday haven from which to explore this Area of Natural Beauty.  Cycling, riding and walking can be enjoyed over the Quantocks, Brendon Hills and Exmoor National Park and a short drive leads to the coastal areas of West Somerset, including the Watchet Harbour Marina, the family seaside resort of Minehead and Blue Anchor beach. Horse stabling and grazing are available by arrangement for families looking to see the surrounding countryside by the saddle.

Manor Farm Barn, Dewlish, Nr Dorchester, Dorset

Situated in the pretty village of Dewlish, surrounded by the rolling Dorset hills, this highly individual and beautifully converted 18th-century farm building occupies a quiet corner of a courtyard on the edge of a 500 acre dairy and arable farm. Manor Farm Barn is detached and arranged over three floors, offering eight en-suite bedrooms, perfect for a family break.  Children will enjoy watching the farm activities, with ducks and hens on site, and stabling is available for guests’ own horses (by arrangement at extra cost). There are also bridle paths extending from the farm and many pretty walks to enjoy locally, with several inns nearby and a village pub just 150 yards away.

Crogen Coach House, Corwen, Denbighshire

Situated in one of the most beautiful and undiscovered areas of Britain, this superb house exudes charm and character, boasting spacious rooms, wood-burning stove and open fires. South-facing, and with a sheltered verandah, this detached holiday property is set in an estate with access to 2,500 acres of walking country and four miles of river with salmon, trout and grayling fishing by arrangement. Fields and stabling are also available by arrangement for ponies, with trekking to be enjoyed in the surrounding countryside. The quaint market town of Corwen lies just eight miles from the typical Welsh town of Llangollen which hosts the International Music Eisteddfod each July.
