Cottage of the week – Yew Tree Cottage

Our new featured property encapsulates everything that makes a Cottage of the Week to such an extent that writing about it seems a bit redundant, really. Basically, if you’re not sold on Yew Tree Cottage in Westow from the photos alone then it’s possible you’re not looking for a cottage holiday!

Then again, the property has far more to offer than just looks; the surrounding area is equally attractive, offering a wealth of things to see and do. Set within the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Westow is a picture-postcard English village affording incredible views of the surrounding area. It’s also ideally located, with easy access to the region’s many attractions.

Castle Howard is only 5 miles away and will be immediately familiar to fans of both adaptations of Evelyn Waugh’s novel Brideshead Revisited. To anyone else, it will have to make do as being one of the most impressive private residences in the UK. The city of York is only slightly further afield and offers a winning combination of historic attractions and urban vibrancy. If you like to be beside the seaside then the coastal resorts of Scarborough, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes are also easily accessible from the cottage.

Of course with such a cosy cottage on offer, it’s entirely likely that you may forego the beauty of the surrounding area entirely. To help you to this end, there are doorstep deliveries of local organic meats, vegetables and milk available by arrangement. And with your basic needs covered, let’s talk a little about luxuries.

The living room offers a wood-burning stove, oak floor and French doors to the garden. You’ll also find some deep sofas to aid your appreciation, and a flat-screen TV, just in case you grow tired of your surroundings. Which is unlikely, however, as the rest of the house is equally inviting.

You’ll find exposed beams, oak flooring and an open fire in the dining room. A light, airy ambience with a Belfast sink, tiled floor and range cooker will help you cook up a storm in the kitchen, and the bathroom offers a lovely clawfoot bath to aid your relaxation.

If you’d like to find out more, or make a booking, please visit the property’s listing on cottages4you.
