Cottage of the week – Whitehall

Forgetting the inconvenience associated with cold weather for a moment, the fact that snow makes the world look a little bit prettier is undeniable. Some properties, however, look a little bit nicer than others with a dusting of snow. Our new cottage of the week: Whitehall in Mealsgate is no exception.

Perfectly located for exploring the Lakes, Whitehall is a wonderfully atmospheric 14th-century Pele Tower that makes for an utterly unique holiday experience – whatever the weather. A Grade I listed property, it has been owned by the same family over the past 100 years, so, needless to say, it’s incredibly well preserved with a fascinating history. But that’s not to say it doesn’t also boast more contemporary comforts.

Among the spacious rooms with arched windows, leading to views of tranquil pastureland, you’ll find a magnificent Tudor stone fireplace. You will also find more welcome features associated with contemporary leisure. Comfortable beds and sofas, a games room, TV with DVD player and stereo are just a selection of features designed to make your stay more pleasurable.

The grounds surrounding the property are equally diverse and rich with opportunity. Among the acre of grounds you will discover the picturesque ruins of a Victorian manor house, two large lawns, which are ideal for family games, and a whole host of wildlife – including red squirrels.

The surrounding area is equally well suited to a discovery of wildlife and natural landscapes. The Northern Lakes is close by; Bassenthwaite Lake is less than 10 miles away and you have a range of other attractions only a short drive away,  including Go Ape, Hadrian’s Wall, Keswick, Cockermouth and Ullswater.

As with many of our features properties, Whitehall is booking up quick for the festive period – though it’s never too soon to start planning your 2011 holiday. To make a booking and find out more information, please visit the property’s listing on cottages4you.
