Cottage of the Week – The Manor House

As well as providing a more homely holiday destination, cottage holidays offer the opportunity to move off the beaten track and explore an area that most people have probably never heard of, let alone visited. Our new Cottage of the Week, The Manor House on Osea Island, is not only a great example of this approach to holidaymaking, but also a stunning property in its own right.

Located in the Blackwater Estuary in Essex, the island is separated from the mainland by a causeway, which only reaffirms its status as a one-of-a-kind holiday destination. Osea’s uniqueness is only boosted by its rich and diverse history; the Romans built the causeway and the island later featured in the Domesday book. In 1903 Osea was purchased and developed by brewery owner and philanthropist Frederick Charrington. Today, however, the island is a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its unique ecology, rare plants, birds and marine life.

Obviously you’re going to need a very impressive property to do justice to this fantastic location and, thankfully, The Manor House is more than up to the task. Built around 1900, in the style of a grand Edwardian seaside residence, the property is an incredible (and incredibly huge!) holiday destination with commanding views of the estuary and the nearby beach.

Sympathetically restored to offer original features with some comfortable modern additions, you’ll find luxury and relaxation are the orders of the day. For example, not only will you find antique four-poster beds with Egyptian cotton sheets in the bedrooms, but you’ll also be able to enjoy the views provided by the accompanying 42” flatscreen TVs. Similarly, the opulent dining room can enhance any social gathering by offering a dining table that turns into a full-size billiard table. Further leisure options include an Edwardian salt-water swimming pool, shared use of a gym and sauna and opportunities for fishing and cycling.

There’s almost too much to detail in this feature, so we’d recommend visiting The Manor House’s listing on the cottages4you website where you can see more details, check availability and make a booking.
