Cottage of the week – Loreto

We’ve chosen an area with literary leanings for this week’s featured property. As the former home of Alfred Tennyson, it’s no surprise that the Isle of Wight carries an indelible mark from the years the poet called it home. After all, he held the longest tenure as Poet Laureate and was later bestowed ‘Baron Tennyson, of Freshwater in the Isle of Wight’ by Queen Victoria, herself a frequent visitor the Isle.

Having just marked World Poetry Day, there’s no better time to visit the Isle of Wight, learn more about Tennyson’s life and share in his inspiration. Loreto in Freshwater is not only the perfect place to begin your exploration is but also a fantastic holiday property in its own right.

Situated on the western side of the Isle, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the region’s spectacular walks and natural landmarks are almost on your doorstep. The chalk downs of West High Down, not to mention the Tennyson Trail, are just a short distance away and offer some of Isle’s most spectacular views. Further south you have the Heritage coastline with the iconic Needles and the coloured sands of Alum Bay to enjoy. If you only walk through necessity then you’ll be relieved to hear that shops are less than a mile away and the local pub is only 1 mile from the cottage.

Loreto itself is as enjoyably tranquil as the surrounding area. Inside you’ll find a combination of historic character and contemporary comfort. There’s an open fire, wooden floor and plenty of soft furnishings to aid your relaxation. You’ll also find gardens with furniture through the French doors to both the front and rear of the property – perfect for soaking up sunlight and enjoying the fresh coastal air.

Loreto sleeps 4 holidaymakers with one double bedroom and two singles. If you’d like more info or to make a booking please visit the property’s listing on cottages4you.
