Cottage of the week – Light Keepers House

Many properties are sold on their ability to transport you from the hustle and bustle of modern day life to a place filled with unbroken tranquility, expansive views, beautiful surroundings and fresh air that both heartens and relaxes you. And while a select few manage to tick all those boxes, we can’t think of many that offer all these in the majestic shadow of a lighthouse with stunning coastal views.

Light Keeper’s House may offer a niche location, but its attractions are anything but limited. Alongside breathtaking views there are fantastic walks to enjoy over the Galloway Hills and the Southern Upland Way. With a stunning array of local flora and an indigenous wildlife that includes pine martens, golden eagle, ospreys, red deer, red squirrels and the occasional natterjack toad, there’s much to admire beyond your front door.

If you’re after more civilised pursuits, or fancy experiencing some local culture, then nearby Portpatrick offers a lively harbour, craft shops and good selection of restaurants. Wigtown is the perfect place if you’re after some holiday reading. ‘Scotland’s National Book Town’ boasts a wealth of secondhand bookshops, along with a charming gallery and excellent cafes. It’s also only a few miles from Bladnoch Distillery, where visitors can sample one of Scotland’s other renowned attractions: malt whisky.

With such a wild open landscape you probably won’t be surprised to find the local area offers a wealth of active pursuits. From a relaxing round of golf to shooting and riding, there’s enough to cater to all interests and abilities. If you fancy exploring the wonderful coastline then sailing is available via the local marina, and for those happy to travel slightly further afield there is the Galloway Sailing Centre where visitors can also try windsurfing, canoeing and power boating.

If you fancy being transported to one of the UK’s most stunning and tranquil regions, or just fancy holidaying somewhere a little different, then you can make a booking and find more info on the property’s listing on cottages4you.
