Cottage of the Week – Le Petit Troglo, Bourré, nr. Montrichard
While we can’t all visit Middle Earth and enjoy a break in a cosy little Hobbit hole we think the next best thing is a break at Le Petit Troglo: an unusual and carefully restored troglodyte (cave dweller) holiday home, situated half way up the hill-side, approached by a track, with a view of the local village and countryside.
While Le Petit Troglo may be considered fairly traditional accommodation in the region, it offers a highly unique holiday proposition. The interior is full of character with an ornamental fireplace in the living room and one of the first things you will notice upon entering is that it has been decorated with great care and originality. If you’d care to explore your immediate surrounds you will also find that the owners have a restaurant in the troglodyte caves just down the track.
Wander slightly further and you can stroll into the nearby village of Bourré along the riverbank. The town of Montrichard is just down the road and offers a sandy beach on the banks of the River Cher. Slightly further afield you will find that the region is famed for its history and heritage with a wealth of chateaux to explore at your leisure – including the lovely Château of Chenonceau.
Back at Le Petit Troglo you will find that all of your holiday needs are catered for. There’s a well-equipped open-plan kitchen that’s perfect for cooking up delicious dishes featuring local produce. A wood-burning stove will help to keep you cosy in the cooler months – not to mention offer a wonderful projected glow on the cavern walls.
Despite offering a fairly traditional, though unconventional, holiday, you will find a few modern comforts to make your stay a little easier – including a satellite TV, microwave and electric heating. If you fancy getting back to basics in the warmer months you will also find a barbecue and furniture in the garden.
If you’d like a relaxing holiday with a difference in one of France’s most naturally enchanting regions then you can book a break at Le Petit Troglo online. Visit the property listing on cottages4you for more info.
