Cottage of the week – Hathaway Hamlet

With both St George’s Day and Shakespeare’s birthday taking place next week we thought finding a fantastic cottage of the week would be easy. And we were right, Stratford upon Avon isn’t short of stunning properties – the difficult part was narrowing the choice down to just one! Anyway, we finally focussed on the appropriately named Hathaway Hamlet, right in the heart of Shakespeare’s story.

While not actually the former residence of Shakespeare’s wife, Hathaway Hamlet is located just 200 yards from the famous cottage – and boasts an equally impressive architectural style and period. You’ll find beautiful beamed dining and living rooms, a large stone feature inglenook fireplace, a four-poster bed and mullion windows – which are perfect for admirers to stand underneath and make impromptu (or heavily rehearsed!) declarations of love.

The surrounding area is equally heartening and delightful. Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Nash’s House, Shakespeare’s Chapel and the world renowned Royal Shakespeare Theatre are all easily accessible. The River Avon is the perfect place to mess about in boats on lazy summer days. Further afield you have Royal Leamington Spa and Warwick, both offering not inconsiderable historic charms. If you’re after somewhere a little more cosmopolitan then you can be in the centre of Birmingham within 30 minutes and if you’d like somewhere quiet to relax afterwards, you have The Cotswolds in the opposite direction.

Hathaway Hamlet is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a break in traditional surroundings, though you will also find some modern comforts. The property offers a TV, DVD player, radio and microwave, alongside a travel cot and highchair for Shakespeare’s smaller fans.

If you’d like to stay in The Bard’s neighbourhood, or want more information about Hathaway Hamlet, then please take a look at the property’s listing on cottages4you.
