Cottage of the week – French Cottage

Since we made County Cork this week’s recommended location in the UK, Ireland and France, we thought we’d choose a lovely property in the area for Cottage of the Week. But truthfully, it wouldn’t really matter where French Cottage is located, as it already possesses more than enough comfort to make sure you don’t have to explore the surrounding area to have a fantastic holiday!

French Cottage – and the larger Granary Cottage at the site – has been sympathetically converted from former stables and lies in the courtyard of a restored Georgian House, built on the site of a former castle dating back to 1645. The cottage possesses a wealth of noteworthy charms, including slate and wooden floors, French doors, exposed beams and a wood-burning stove in the living room / dining room.

The outside area is equally rich with relaxing opportunities, such as a large sloping lawn that leads to a charming pebble beach. A BBQ and garden furniture in the private garden ensure you’ll be able to make the most of summer. There’s also a shared, covered, heated exercise pool if you feel the need to cool off, whatever the weather!

We’ve detailed some of our favourite attractions in Cork in this week’s 101 Places to Go feature, but there’s plenty more to see and do in the area! Bustling Kinsale is only 5 miles away from French Cottage and is one of the most picturesque and historic of Irish towns, with its winding streets offering plenty of shopping opportunities, along with pubs and restaurants and a pair of historic fortresses.

Cork, Ireland’s second largest city, is only 16 miles from the property and offers a wealth of historic and contemporary attractions. If you just fancy somewhere nearby to eat then there are a number of restaurants nearby in Oysterhaven (1 mile), and Nohoval, (3 miles).

If you’d like more info, or to make a booking at French Cottage, the please visit the property’s listing on cottages4you.
