Cottage of the Week – De Vere House, Lavenham, Suffolk

BUJ-W01
De Vere House: a property fit for a king (or a wizard)

Even without its illustrious history (a Grade I listed property that historians believe King Henry VII visited in 1498) it’s easy to see why we’re highlighting the fantastic De Vere House as our new Cottage of the Week. Guests can sleep in four-poster beds, relax by an open fire under exposed beams and enjoy a property that boasts modern day comfort comfort alongside wonderfully refined period features. It’s perhaps not surprising that previous guests have described the experience as ‘enchanting’.
So as Halloween approaches we thought we should choose a suitably impressive property to showcase, and though De Vere House would be worthy even without its historic ties, the main reason we’re highlighting it this week is for its connections to the Harry Potter series.
De Vere House appeared in the first part of the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, not just Harry’s birthplace and childhood home, but as the entire street of Godric’s Hollow. Various shots of the property were used to assemble the village for a return visit by Harry and Hermione. In fact so iconic has the property become since its screen debut that it now boasts the second most photographed doorway in the UK!

If you fancy going one step further and staying at the birthplace of the boy wizard then you can find more info, availability and pricing on the property listing on our website.
