Cottage of the week – Corner Cottage

After featuring High Force waterfall as this week’s entry to our ’101 places to go in the UK, Ireland and France’ feature, we thought we’d select a cottage of the week nearby, for those keen to explore this beautiful region. But even if Corner Cottage weren’t only a few minutes away from one of the UK’s highest waterfalls, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. In fact, it’s possible to have a fantastic holiday at the property without moving too far from your doorstep.

One of a pair, located in the grounds of the magnificent 18th century Thorpe Hall, Corner Cottage offers its own private garden with the River Tees flowing close by and the Teesdale Way just 20 metres away. There’s also a local pub and farm shop just ½ mile from the property.

If you choose to venture outside of the grounds then there are a number of must-see attractions nearby. Along with the not inconsiderable draw of the UK’s biggest waterfall there’s also the spectacular Raby Castle, former home of King Cnut and Barnard Castle, a lovely market town with a host of things to see, do and eat! And if you’re after something a little livelier Durham, York, Harrogate and the Gateshead Metro Centre are all approximately one hour’s drive away.

A beautiful cottage, offering preserved charms alongside contemporary features, Corner Cottage boasts a spacious and airy feel, thanks to its large windows and light décor. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the garden room – which offers great views of the surrounding countryside. Other features include an open fire, spiral staircase, wooden floors, a lovely farmhouse kitchen, three TVs and much more.

If you fancy a stunning base from which to explore the fantastic landscape of Country Durham then view Corner Cottage on cottages4you, where you can make a booking or find out more info.
