101 places to visit – Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace really needs no introduction. One of the few working royal palaces in the world today, there are few other places where you can get such an authentic feel for royal life. But because it’s a working palace, you have to work around the busy schedule of its occupant to take full advantage of what the palace has to offer. And unfortunately, HRH’s schedule is a little inflexible! So this is the reason why we’ve chosen it for this week’s recommended place to visit, because from 3 October, you won’t be able to get access to the amazing State Rooms.

The nineteen State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are where the Queen and other members of the Royal Family entertain guests on state and ceremonial occasions, so they’re filled with impressive trinkets – including an incredible array of impressive paintings, sculptures, porcelain and furniture. But perhaps the biggest draw is The Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress.

Here are a few interesting facts about Buckingham Palace to impress your friends. Have you got your own? Leave a comment below!

• Since 1837, Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the reigning monarch. It comprises 775 rooms, including the 19 State Rooms, over 200 bathrooms and 78 bathrooms!

• More than 50,000 people visit the palace each year.

• The largest multi-purpose room in the palace is the Ballroom at 36.6m long, 18m wide and 13.5m high.  The ballroom hosts a number of events each year, including approximately 21 investitures.
