101 places to go – Haworth
The lovely little village of Haworth in Yorkshire is our new entry to our 101 Places to Go in the UK, Ireland and France. And while our recent feature on UK filming locations partly inspired this decision (a new version of Jane Eyre will reach cinema screens later this year), Haworth is such a beautiful little place that it would deserve a mention even without its historic ties to the Brontë family.
Situated on the edge of the Pennines, Haworth’s cobbled streets, tea rooms and antique shops help to convey a place that is incredibly proud of its heritage. So it goes without saying that Haworth is a fantastic place to relax in and explore, but what else is there to do? We’ve selected a couple of our favourite things below. Do you have your own? • The legacy of the Brontës plays such a huge part in the tale of Haworth itself that it would be remiss of us to not recommend a visit to the Parsonage Museum. The family’s former home is packed with history and family memorabilia and acts a as a fantastic testament to the Brontë’s time in Haworth.
• More recent history is celebrated annually in Haworth with both the 1940s and 1960s weekends. Each event provides a perfect opportunity to dress up and take a trip down memory lane.
