7 must-see coastal attractions

Britain’s coasts offer an amazing array of iconic attractions. From Skye to Southend, the majestic sights and stunning shoreline provide plenty to enjoy. Here’s a selection of 7 must-see sights at the seaside.

The Needles, Isle of Wight

the Needles

The iconic Needles rise out of the waters on the Isle of Wight’s Alum Bay. Take a chairlift ride to truly appreciate their beauty and relax on the beach afterwards.

Blackpool Tower, Lancashire

blackpool tower

One of the UK’s most traditional seaside sights, the Tower opened in 1894 and has been drawing crowds ever since. Take a trip to the top, visit the circus, ballroom or explore Blackpool’s Blue Flag beach; it’s perfect seaside fun.

Whitby Abbey, Yorkshire

Whitby Abbey

It may look less welcoming than most seaside attractions, but Whitby’s Abbey offers an undeniably iconic experience. Climb the 199 steps to the top and admire the views before enjoying the finest fish and chips on the beach.

Durdle Door, Dorset

Durdle door

Formed by waves wearing a hole into limestone, Durdle Door is now one of Britain’s best-loved coastal locations. Walk along the shingle beach and enjoy beautiful views over the Dorset water.

Southend Pier, Essex

royal pavillion

The world’s longest ‘pleasure pier’, Southend was originally opened in the 19th Century. Redeveloped over the years, it now offers theatre and art exhibits in its Culture Centre, but the pleasure of a promenade down the pier remains unchanged!

The Old Man of Storr, Isle of Skye

Another amazing and iconic sight, the Old Man was formed by ancient landslips. Today it offers great walks, amazing views and unforgettable experiences to visitors.

St Michael’s Mount, Cornwall

St Michaels Mount

Located on a tidal island just off Marazion, you don’t need to walk over the flats to appreciate the wild beauty of St Michael’s Mount and the stunning architecture of its castle and chapel.
